2012 Standing Family Reunion

Mark your calendars -- the 2012 Standing Family Reunion will take place at the Bear Creek meeting house, near Earlham, Iowa on Friday evening the 22nd of June thru Sunday noon the 24th of June, 2012.

Using a GPS?
    Bear Creek Friends Meeting
    1808 Bear Creek Rd
    Earlham, Iowa, 50072-8007
In case the signs blow over, here are the directions for the last couple of miles: Get off I-80 at exit 104 (Earlham); take "I" avenue north (away from Earlham -- for 'avenue' think 'country road') and bear right at fork in road and stay on I avenue for a little over a mile, then turn right on Bear Creek Road (bunch of cedar trees on corner) and the Bear Creek Meeting will be about 400 feet or so on the right. Plenty of parking.

Informaton will follow below as the date approaches.

Here is the most recent memo from Ruth Alliband (23 March 2012).

Dear Family Members:

The 2012 Standing Reunion is three months away--time to make a commitment to this biannual event. I have attached several files--only one is large. I hope all of you have Adobe Acrobat on your computers to open the PDF files. (I use an alternative word processing software and I feel you would have MORE trouble opening those files.) DO let me know if this won't work for you and I will see about getting a more friendly file sent your way.

Main things to remember (besides the weekend, June 22-24, 2012 and the location, Bear Creek Meeting House, Earlham IA):

RETURN YOUR RSVP AND QUESTIONNAIRE

ENCOURAGE YOUR KIDS TO RESPOND TO THE QUESTIONNAIRE

FILL THE QUESTIONNAIRE OUT YOURSELVES--THIS IS YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO OUR FAMILY HERITAGE

I'm hoping for a flood of email and US Post mail. A fortunate few of you will also be getting a US Post mailing from me, but for most of you, this more cost-effective communication is your IMPORTANT reminder. AND, if you are slow in responding, I am about to start hounding you on a VERY REGULAR BASIS. I hope you will be putting this reunion into your summer plans.

Best regards,

Ruth Alliband

March 22, 2011

Dear Family:

At the 2010 reunion, we planned for the next reunion to take place at
the Bear Creek Meetinghouse site  June 22-24, 2012.  It's not too
early to get this date into your calendars...  It's also not too early
to let me know you are planning on coming.  Ted Foster maintains the
reunion website at: http://standingfamily.org/.  Look for updates
there.

The Plagmans again are the coordinators, with a big supporting cast of
relatives who live close by.  Jackie Leckbend of the Bear Creek
Meeting has agreed to be our cook for the weekend.

The Plagman Girls are planning on writing a new mini-play for the
talent show, comparing and contrasting life NOW with life THEN.  They
need material, so please complete the enclosed/attached survey.  If
there are additional stories/memories that you would like to share,
use extra sheets of paper.

Passing on stories and memories is part of what the reunion is about:

•       When Richard Standing traveled across the pond to be at the 2008
gathering, he said that for him, the Ifield Meeting House site in England
was sacred ground, because it was “where it all began”...  Wedding
vows of our ancestors were exchanged there a hundred and fifty years ago.

•       Sylvia Thomas said that we gather at the reunion, bound together by
our common ancestry and the mystery of our own death.

•       Sally Russell brought a new quilt to a reunion a few years ago and
said that the family reminded her of the blocks in her quilt, each
unique and yet joined by a common pattern.

You may send your completed surveys to my postal address:

Ruth Alliband
410 W. Olive Street
Stillwater, MN 55082

OR via email to:  allib001@umn.edu

I will attempt to send more of the reunion mail out electronically, so
would appreciate more e-addresses to substitute for US Post
addresses.
